The sole purpose of health communication is based on making people aware of health information which can influence their personal health choices thereby improving health literacy. The most important part of health communication environment is to motivate the receiver to actively attend to messages and perceive their content. This can only be confirmed by observing active elaboration of message arguments and counterarguments which have the capability to take a person through the process of attitude change.

New media refers to next generation of mass media which include content available on-demand through the Internet, accessible on any digital device, usually containing interactive user feedback and creative participation. Media plays a central role in people's lives. Its importance lies in the fact that average time of our day we generally spent on these things such as watching television, surfing the World Wide Web, listening to music, and reading newspapers and magazines. Additionally, delivery of information through mass media is instant and available around the clock.

The powerful advantage of new media is the rapid spread of simple facts to a large population at a low cost. The main effects of mass communication are the increased knowledge or awareness of an issue, the potential influence on behaviors at the early stages and the possibility to communicate new ideas to early adopters.
