Robert Sternberg triangular theory of love tells us that love is an important part in a person's life.. According to him love is made up of three components,Intimacy, passion and commitment. Non love in a relationship that with whom we are acquainted has no intimacy passion or commitment. In a triangle, intimacy is the topmost and passion and commitment make the extreme points. Linking is at the top because it involves only intimacy. This will be characterized by feeling of trust. For example in this we like our friends but we may lack passion and long term commitment. Infatuation is at the left point where there is only passion and sexual attraction . This kind of infatuation will lack emotional bonding and commitment. If we do not develop either of these it will onle be short term.Empty love is at the right point of the triangle and has strong commitment to sustaining the relationship. There is no emotional closeness and sexual attraction. Only commitment will hold them together. In situations as in arranged marriages ,where people feel commited to stay in a marriage. In joint family system in an indian context most of the circumstances ,there is lack of love or emotions mostly we stay in it together for the sake of commitment.
