The person with good leadership behaviour always encourages teamwork and team building. His decisions are always fair without any discrimination and partiality. He is honest and transparent in all aspects related to work. He always discusses the values of the employees and the managers set by the organization. In addition to all these, he never tolerates any ethical violations.
These sorts of leadership behaviour are important for effective strategy implementation.
The following are the few qualities required to hold the leadership position:
· Having good and effective communication: Communication is the prerequisite for all the organisations in the contemporary world. Communication involves verbal, non-verbal and written skills. In order to be a successful leader, he should have all these skills. Effective communication helps in developing good relationships with the stakeholders, customers, other managers, team members etc. Proper communication with the team members helps in enhancing the employee morale. Effective communication plays a crucial role in product development, employee management and active customer associations. Communication is the only source to exchange ideas or messages etc. A proper communication helps managers to assign the tasks effectively to their associates. It helps in planning, organising and motivating. Lack of communication may sometimes lead to closure of organisations.
· Self-awareness: A leader must be completely aware of himself. He should know his own strengths and weaknesses and act accordingly.
· Situational Awareness: A great leader always keeps an eye on what is happening around him and in the organisation.
· Effective Negotiation skills: A leader must be capable to negotiate business deals with ease.
· Conflict resolution skills: A leader should be able to resolve any conflicts between the employees and have to address their problems if they have any. The conflict management must be sensible and should not hurt either of the individuals. A great conflict management is possible with effective teamwork and problem-solving skills of the manager.
· Inspiring Others: A leader should be motivating the employees constantly.
· Delegating: A leader must delegate the work to the employees. A leader must know which work to assign to whom at what time. This is an important role of the leader.
· Adaptability: Adaptability is one of the vital characteristics of any leader. The great leaders are the most adaptable persons.
Apart from these, the manager should have empathy, take accountability, have clear vision of the future and should not show any favouritism among his followers.
