Write an essay on gender typing in developmental psychology
Gender typing is the process wherein the individuals within a given society are initiated and acquainted with their gender roles at any point of time in the society.
Gender typing can be seen when kids are bought toys to play with, or there are certain rules that they are made to follow, which are typecast and only prevelant for a sect of gender.
These can be beneficial for the children as it necessary to understand the ropes of society, but more often than not, these gender roles create a disparaging gap in the society and teach stereotypes and prejudices which are carried forward in the society as a form of norm.
For instance, questioning the masculitinty of a male child for his preference of dolls, is, what one can constitute as intolerant parenting. Color preferences, most often than not, are also driven by stereotypes and the masculitinty and femininity are associated with these colors.
Selection of colors which are antithese to the apparent construct of gender can lead to bullying and warped social interactions owing to what is taught to children without cognizance.
Social observations and social learning and the huodimg of schemas as result of these observations can lead to frameworks of references which aren't particularly healthy for the society as whole, and can lead to sexism.
