how does recognition of the codon lead to the termination of protein synthesis and dissociation of the ribosomal subunits? What happens if the stop codon is missing?
Protein synthesis terminates when ribosome translocates a termination codon. Because there are no tRNAs with Anticodon complementary to the termination codons, so tRNA does not enter the A site of ribosome when termination codon is encountered and instead protien known as release factors bind to the ribosome and binding of these release factors at the A site of ribosome promotes cleavage of tRNA at in the P site form polypeptide chain and polypeptide chain is released.
Without stop codon, protien synthesis would stop without releasing polypeptide chain.
