Chapter 5 discusses three different types of learning: classical conditioning (physiological responses learned through association), operant conditioning (voluntary behaviors learned through consequences), and observational learning (voluntary behaviors learned through watching a model). If you had a friend who desperately wanted to lose weight, which type of learning would you suggest to help them lose weight? How would a weight loss program use the principles of learning to help people lose weight? Do you think the program would work? Why or why not? In your response include text references to specific information in chapter 5, citing appropriate quotes from the current edition of the textbook and the section number of the textbook in which you found each quote.

Wiegh loosing is not just about hitting the gym and regulating diet. It involves better understanding of one's behavior and emotion and using it to guide his plans.
I would suggest him to use classical conditioning first. Generally overeating occurs due to associative learning. eg if one has developed a habit of eating whenever he watches TV , then slowly it becomes classically conditioned, and person eats while watching tv even if he has just eaten. So, managing this , i.e. by deconditioning eating with watching tv would help him achieve his target if he pursue his plan of workout and dietary control.
I think learning program will certainly help because various researches un APA has proved that classical conditioning has played a major role in over eating and eating when not hungry. Thus this aspect if controlled will certainly help in lossing weight.

I donot find relevent quotes and You could have mention textbook author so could have looked in chapter 5.

The topic is learning. As you will see, there are three main types of learning--classical conditioning, where we end up pairing something that usually elicits a behavior with something that usually doesn't--if we do that enough, the thing that doesn't usually elicit the behavior will, operant conditioning, where we are reinforced or punished for engaging in a behavior so that behavior is either strengthened or weakened; and social learning, where we learn by watching others.
