Find and describe three advertisements that you believe are based on cognitive learning, operant conditioning and classical conditioning. Justify your selection

Solutions

Expert Solution

Operant conditioning is where a behaviour is promoted or demoted by the consequences that might occur for the behaviour. Advertisements based on this principle include:

- constant pestering done by the salesperson by calling the customers again and again so that the customer would get irritated and buy the product so that the salesperson would stop calling him again and again.

This behaviour is called negative reinforcement or negative conditioning

- Also, scaring the customer that if the warranty ends, it might cause harm to their products and persuade them to buy an extended warranty. This is also an example of negative conditioning.

Classical conditioning: this type of conditioning is where there is attachment of a stimulus to a previously neutral phenomenon, such as there is formation of a response in attachment to that particular stimuli.

- here, the advertiser will try Association of a type of feeling with their product hoping that the consumer might buy his product. Example, delicious, mouth watering food visuals associated with restaurant, or use of music in the form of jingles such that every time the consumer would watch the products they would associate it with the jingle or the song.

The topic is learning. As you will see, there are three main types of learning--classical conditioning, where we end up pairing something that usually elicits a behavior with something that usually doesn't--if we do that enough, the thing that doesn't usually elicit the behavior will, operant conditioning, where we are reinforced or punished for engaging in a behavior so that behavior is either strengthened or weakened; and social learning, where we learn by watching others. Apply one of these theories...
