Expert Solution

Motivation is a stimulus or something that drives an individual to work for some achievement or goals. Without a purpose, need or desire, there can't be any motivation.

To increase the motivation level for promoting group participation, I use a flexible styel, and involve each member in decision making and prioritising the activities. I also ensure that each group member participate in the process, by breaking the activities into smaller and individually manageable tasks. Thus helps the members to know that their efforts are counted and group performance is rewarded.

When employees are working as group members, they would easily get impacted with the different ways and approach of eac others, there might be conflicts due to diversity, and other factors, that decrease the motivation level. It is important to communicate the purpose, goals, and rewards so that each member understand his involvement and get prepared to work with others collaboratively.

Examples to increase motivation for the group members who are lacking inspiration:

* When the employees don't find any common gaols and have doubts about the group work, they may find it difficult to stay motivated. In this situation, it is important to communicate benefits and Rewards of the group work, it's impact on the career and to let him understand that large amount of work needs more members for accomplishments.

* When the group members resort to social loafing, and won't contribute their efforts. In such circumstances, it is required to create inspiration by breaking larger activities into smaller tasks as mentioned above, and to assign the tasks to each member. This ensures that the employees take responsibility for their part of work, and try to complete it with quality. They will feel motivated by the fact that their individual efforts are counted and are provided with inventive, benefits for meeting the group standards and performance criterias.

* When the members of the group are into conflicts with each other and having a negative environment, with internal competition. In this situation, it is required to have a discussion and to make the members understand that they need to work collaboratively to retain their positions. The competition they are creating needs to be with other groups in an ethical way and with an intention to perform better, not to compete with other member of the same group. With a healthy discussion and counseling these dysfunctional conflicts can be eliminated and members are inspired to remain motivated for achieving the desired results.
