1. Key issues in childhood?
Chapter 3 covers human development from birth to old age, or "womb to tomb" as we sometimes say. Developmental psychologists study physical, cognitive, and social change over the lifespan. After reading the first half of Ch. 3 on childhood development, what strikes you as one of the most critical issues in childhood development, physically, socially, or cognitively? What surprised you or caught your attention in this material? How might you apply this information in your own life?
2. Piaget Summer Camp?
You have decided to open a summer camp for children based on the cognitive development ideas of Jean Piaget. Come up with one camp activity for each of Piaget’s four stages:
- sensorimotor,
- pre-operational,
- concrete operational and
- formal operational (you can identify specific ages if you like).
Explain how your activities fit the tasks of that stage, using the text and additional sources as references if you like (if you do, cite them at the end).
Make these fun camp-like activities!
