Compare the role of the individual patient, insurance companies, and the state and federal government in paying for mental health services.
Whatever the product or service, an individual should buy it with their own money and insurance is one such thing in the market. When we look at the mentally ill people, most of them will be in a position where they won’t be able to work and earn money. This causes lots of trouble in managing their finance and support themselves for their expenses. Unless the patient is rich and supported by the family the patient won’t be able to pay for his medicines or premium.
One of the primary duties of a government is the welfare of the people in terms of physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. Very recently, most of the governments in various countries have announced medical insurance to its citizens and the insurance premium money is bore by the governments. Some of the insurance companies deny to include mental illness in their coverage because they are afraid when this would come to an end or whether the patient will be able to pay for the premiums. So, it becomes the government’s responsibility to make sure that the insurance companies cover all the treatments and offer a fair service to the customers.
