Expert Solution

*According to the Health Belief model (Dental Hygiene as anexample)

Modifying Variables          Perceived severity                   Perceived benefits       Cues to        Taking action
(age,gender,race,economy,     +perceived susceptibility        +    -perceived barriers   + action   +     (or not)
characteristics)

(base score for the           (base score for the belief          (base score for
persons dental hygiene)         that improper dental hygiene       maintaining
will harm person's health)         dental hygiene)

*According to the Stage of Transtheoritical theory , the dental hygienists explains as below
how to promote the dental hygiene by changing the behavior of the person through health education.
1.Precontemplation-people do not intend to take action in the foreseeable future (shows no interest on dental hygiene)
2.Contemplation- people are intending to start the healthy behavior, recognizes that thier behavior is problematic(recognizes that improper dental hygiene causes harm to them)
3.Determination/preparation-people take small steps toward behavior change(modifies the behavior by having dental care)
4.Action- people have recently changed their behavior andmoving forward(continues the dental caring)
5.Maintenance-people intend to maintain behavior change going forward, prevent relapse to earlier stage.(maintains regular dental hygiene and avoids neglecting dental care)
6.Termination-here people have no return to their unhealthy behavior(continuously gives attention to maintain dental hygiene )here health promotion is not required.

*Reasoned behavior
Reasoned behavior predicts that behavior intent is created or caused by 2 factors, attitudes and subective norms.Attitude will be changed by health education and subective norms will be modified in reasoning. Here by providing health education the person on dental hygiene and hazards of unhealthy dental habits will change the behavior with proper reasoning.

*Locus of control
A person with an internal locus of control believes that he or she can influence events and thier outcomes, while someone with an external locus of coontrol blames outside forces for everything.
here the dentist influences that, the person is responsible for maintaining dental hygiene and also responsible for the unhealthy dental habits.

*Attibution behavior which explains how people make sense of their own behavior and that of other. Here having good dental care will be decided by the person by having the sense to maintain good self respect and relation infront of others by percieving some effects in the society.

*Social learning social cognition
It proposes that new behavior can be acqired by observing and imitating others.Maintaining dental hygiene usually learned by obseved the parents and imitating them.not having proper dental care causes to dental problems trested as punishent and it will be modified byhealth education programsand dental hospital visits.
