Explain how the Transtheoretical Model of Change, also known as Stages of Change Theory can be used to help an obese client who desires weight loss. Explain the different stages of change, and where in these stages you might used the Health Belief Model to help move a person from resistance, to contemplation, to action.

Transtheorectical model was also called as stages of changes that was developed by prochaska and DiClemente to examine the experience of smoker who stop on their own and those require further treatment to understand why the people capable of stopping their own.Transtheoretical model focused on the decision making of individuals.

They are six stages of changes:

  • Preconteplation
  • Conteplation
  • Preparation
  • Action
  • Maintenance
  • Termination

Preconteplation:These is earliest stage in these stage no change to consider in the people are in denial.No intend action to be take with in 6 months and people are unaware of their behavior.Strategies are rethinking of behavior and assess risk of current behavior changes.

Conteplation: During this stage people are intend to start healthy behavior after 6 months.People recognize that the behavior may be problematic and people are more thoughtful and Positive,negatives of changing the behavior takes place .People may feel ambivalent after the recognition of their behavior.

Preparation:It is also called as determination.During this stage people are ready to take necessary action with in the next 1month.People take small steps towards the changing of behavior and believe that they leading a healthier life.

Action:In this stage people will change their behavior recently and intended to go on moving with Positive behavior changes and they exhibit this by modifying their Problem and search to solve their problems.

Maintenance:During this stage,people are in continuation phase to their behavior changes for more than 8 months and intend to maintain Positive thoughts towards their behavior changes and work to prevent relapse to their earlier stages.

Termination:These is the final stage of the behavior changes that people are no desire to return their unhealthy behavior.People tend to stay in the maintenance stage that is considered to be as health promotion program.
