Explain the differences between Ugandan Americans and Jordanian Americans and how does each group particular characteristics can affect your nursing profession? Minimum of 150 words.
Ugandan Americans are Americans of Ugandan descent where as Jordanian Americans are Americans who are descended from Jordanian people.
The reasons for migration is based on the low economic remuneration for workers in Uganda and the low political stability of the country compared with the west.
One difference of Jordanians from other Middle Eastern immigrants is that they often bring their families to the US when they get a job.
Tha characteristics that affect the nursing profession are:
UGANDAN AMERICANS:
1. There is no language Barrier as their official Language is
English.
2. The style of speaking may be the first clue to many nurses that
they are caring for an African immigrant rather than an
American-born Black.
3. The first introduction to the patient should be formal.
4. To build trust, take time with the introduction and then explain your nurse role .
5. The majority population will living in North America.
6. Maintaining a calm, conversational, low-volume tone will prevent offense to the patient. Nurses should also speak clearly and distinctly in a formal way, rather than use slang or colloquialisms, in order to avoid misunderstanding and repetition. Keep in mind that some American English vocabulary and medical terminology may be difficult for the Ugandan immigrant to grasp and understand fully .
7. Encouraging their personal and cultural character strengths of acceptance, determination, and optimism can support them in health-seeking behaviors.
8. Ugandans may avoid eye contact with health care professionals as a sign of deference for their status and expertise.
Jordanian americans:
1. English Language is Barrier for them as there will speak Arabic as their mother tongue.
2. The majority people will live in Washington DC.
