How does gender affect socialization? How are gender roles reinforced throughout society?
In your own words, what is socialization? Please list and describe three (3) agents of socialization and how they can affect our socialization as human beings.
Basically gender socialization begins after a child born. Our society want to know whether the child is boy or a girl. This typical stereotype begins at infancy (0-12 months). In toddlerhood(12-36 months), we choose our baby name according to our child's gender. According to our societies beliefs, norms and tradition we treat them differently. In early adolescence(10-14 years), we teach our girl for prepearing for marriage and our boys are prepeared for job and responsibilities. In adolescence(10-19 years) our gender socialization is dependent upon our gender or sex. According to gender, society expects us differently. Therefore our beliefs, values, norms are gender wise different.
Socialization is a learning process of human being in a society where individual can recognize or identify their sense of self and as well as they can perform accrding to our social norms, values and beliefs. Basically it is a life time interaction process.
There are various kind of agent in a socialization process like family, peer groups, school and etc.
Family : Our family is the first place where a child develop according to their family culture, values and beliefs. A child always want attention to her caregiver or parents. They love to interact with them. As they are dependent on them, therefore a child's family traditions and cultural value is a reflection of their parents. Thus their socialization process begins.
Peer groups : Peer group is the another agent of socialization. Peer group influences greatlyPeer during childhood to adolescence. A peer group belongs the similar kind of social beliefs and interest.
School : School is called the second home for every child. A healthy school atmosphere highly influences on a child's psychological health. A child learn not only educational curriculum but also they acquire social behaviour and skills through social interaction process.
