In your own words, describe the gender differences in aggression.
Gender differences in aggression
Aggression is a social interaction where one individual tends to harm another individual. There
are common gender differences in aggression which is explained below.
Men and aggression:
Men are always encouraged to stay as “A” and women as next to him “B”. So men are expected
to be dominant, tough, violent and aggressive. Also men by nature are crafted to be tough. By
the hormone levels and physique which give them the character. This stems from their
childhood. Young boys were found to be more aggressive and involve themselves in violent
actions. This may be also because of the hormones which initiate the aggressiveness. Apart
from the other factors culture? stands high in making men more aggressive than women.
Women and aggression:
Women are expected to be the care taker of a family. Playing this role effectively needs lower
levels of aggression. She is expected to be full of love, care and affection. Also the physical
nature of women compels her to be less involved in aggressive actions. They are encouraged to
stay protected because of gender-based harm being inflicted on them. By default women tend
to be soft in character.
Exceptions:
Although the above-mentioned is the default case, there are some exceptions where women
came forward and made themselves equal in physique to men and they proved themselves
strong when compared to men.
Factors influencing aggression:
Some factors were found to inflict aggressiveness in both the gender. Some of which are listed
here.
1) Food
Eating spicy food tend to increase aggression.
2) Environment
People who were brought up in an environment with high violence tend to be more aggressive.
3) Physical appearance
Looking tall and strong makes people self-confident in themselves and this factor in some
people makes them aggressive and feel confident in the act of being aggressive.
