ch14 "Sustaining Change, Evaluating, and ending an engagement"
EXERCISE: SUSTAINING CHANGE Imagine that these are individual, team, and organizational changes that you have worked on with clients to implement. What methods to sustain change would you advise in each case? some examples of
1. The accounts payable department has implemented a new technology system for electronic payment of invoices, and all analysts were trained on a new
2. Before they escalate a conflict to their manager, two colleagues have agreed to meet personally first to see if they can resolve the conflict on their own.
3. An organization has implemented a "customer first" initiative to empower service technicians to do what it takes to ensure that customer problem are addressed promptly and accurately the first time.
4. A manager is working to delegate more tasks to her team instead of taking on too much alone.
Change is a part of every of organization and it is required for sustaining every business. Once change is implemented then we need to evaluate the performance of the change ie; whether it is acting positively or negatively, or does it have no change on implementation etc. After evaluating if the change is not for good then we need to end up the change and if it is performing well, we need to continue. Before ending up, we also need to check the drawbacks of changes implemented and look out how it can be worked upon. Another important aspect while implementing changes are we need to change our thought process as well. For example: There was a time when office works were done on paper and then suddenly computerisation came into picture and things changed, so there were a lot of people who opposed the change and it too time for people to suddenly change their mindset.
1. When a new technology is introduced , its always opposed and the conflicts happens. So, here in this case, its the duty of management to convince the employees and make them understand how important it is to make our work efficient and how this can even save our time. Thus, change can be sustained .
2. When " Customer first" initiative is implemented the same way, the need and importance of the same is to be made understood and employees should also be given some fringe benefits and then it will help in sustaining the change.
3. When a manager is trying to delegate more works on employees it has two sides. one side is that he/she wants the team to be more efficient and to stand out.Other side , is he/she wants to be free by delegating all work to subordinates. So, in this case the positive side needs to be studied, employees need to understand how the change can be beneficiaql to them. For example : If an employee grows to level of his manager, there are chances for his/ her promotion. This way, Changes can be sustained.
