How would you handle a verbal request for information?
Verbal orders have a higher potential for errors as these orders can be misheard, misinterpreted or mistranscribed , the verbal orders may be accepted by a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, respiratory therapist, or a pharmacist when it is immposible for the authorized presecriber to write them, licensed practical nurses may accept orders for medication for assigned stable patients indesigned patient care, verbal orders for chemotherapy drugs are not acceptable, generic drug names should be used when drug orders are given, abbreviations should be avoided when an order is given or received, the authorized presecriber identifies self , specifies the patients name and communicated the order and then receiver should documents the order immediately on the prescriber order form including the date, time, aithorized prescribers name, and then repeats the order back to the authorized prescriber, and should request the indication for the medications to assist in avoiding errors, the authorized presecriber must countersign the order within 24 hours after communicating the orders.
