Some organizations are putting millenials on team with baby boomers because of the difference of experience and the way business is conducted by them. Baby boomers belong from the time where businesses had to drive a hard bargain in order to stay sustainable in the market. There was no advantage of technology as the time and people essentially relied on their experience and their skills to solve particular problems. All this is effectively the reason why companies promote such a pairing n order to get the best of both world while essentially training their future workforce, with the experiences of their older workforce.
The advantages of teaming up baby boomer with millennials presents us with the facts that baby boomers allow millenials to learn from their experience. Millennials are young and more driven than baby boomers which essentially balances out the team with efficiency, skills, knowledge and experience as well as the drive to perform tasks at a staggering pace.
The important norms which could regulate the efficient functioning of such a team includes:-
Creating HR management practices which allow the managers to understand the relationship dynamics in such a team.
Creating a consolidated HR department for all the different members of the team.
It is important to assign mentors to the millennials in order for them to grow and essentially allow a much more harmonious relationship between them.
Proper communication methods must be followed.
Stereotypes should not be encouraged in such a situation and equal opportunity should be given to all the members of the team irrespective of their generation.
Moderate levels of group cohesiveness would not only allow different groups to learn from each others, it will also allow the group[s to adopt each other's strengths and weaknesses, relationship dynamics and also allow for the groups to essentially communicate more often and create a better understanding between each of them to allow for their own teams to change the way they conduct their day to day operations. It's not only collaboration but also a sense of competition that makes it a more suited environment to work in due to the presence of healthy competition.
