How might course design differ for baby boomers compared to millenials? What can be done to increase the likelihood of transfer of training if the work environment conditions are unfavorable and cannot be changed?
Most baby boomers prefer a linear interactive course. They like to see clear learning goals and value courses that are designed gradually. Guidelines and telephone support and online will increase. While Millenials prefer non-linear courses to follow, they want their learning goals to be achieved. For Millennials, teamwork and cooperation are very important. Happily, today, eLearning professionals can easily develop a collaborative process with the development of social media.
One way to enhance the chances of training transfer is to provide self-management instruction at the end of the program. Self-management instruction should discuss deficiencies, identify transfer-oriented skills, identify the personal or environmental factor that contributes to deficiencies, discuss coping strategies and skills, identify when deficiencies are probable, and discuss resources for the transfer of skills.
