TOPIC: Euthanasia and End of Life Decisions

There are 3 states in the United States in which euthanasia is legalized. This movement was started quite a few years ago and remains very controversial. The doctor to started this movement is currently in prison.

Think about your grandparents and parents.

1) Describe whether you do or do not think there should be an option for any individual to choose when and how to end their life?

2) Interview your parents or grandparents, or someone in late adulthood (age 60 or older), and ask them what they believe. Give a short synopsis of their response(s).

3) Formulate and describe your own opinion about euthanasia, whether it should be legalized in all states, and write about it. Cite why you agree or disagree with legalization.

• Following are the strategies used for slowing the decline: (a) physical exercise: exercise slows down the degeneration of cognitive skills.This can stimulate the new memories to form. (b) Social engagement : Rejuvenation of memories and relationships play an important role in mind processing .This can be done through joining social groups. (c) proper Sleep: Improper sleep can increase beta amyloid plaque depositions.A good sleep is important in flushing out the toxins from the brain.

What is difference between dementia and Alzheimer's disease? What are the social, emotional, and financial impacts of these diseases on families and on society?

• Alzheimer's disease :This is a progressive degeneration of neurons that gradually causes impairment in memory and cognitive domains.Alzheimer's is a disease. Whereas dementia is a term used for a set of symptoms that cause debilitation of memory, cognitive impairment issues etc.Dementia can occur due to stroke, thyroid issues,vitamin deficiencies etc.The social , financial and economic impact : relationships are affected by the behaviour of the patient.The caretaker is also burdened and distressed.There is increased economic burden for treatment, taking care,medications and management of patients.
