Aging processes result in changes in cognitive ability. One of the most occurring age-related disease is Alzheimer's disease, which I will discuss here considering the following points:
Alzheimer's disease is a form of brain deterioration in which abnormal particles known as neurofibrillary tangles & neurotic plaques are generated in the brain & destroy healthy neurones. These abnormalities are likely to resolve in brain areas that control the ability of learning a new fact as well as logic to remember.
Furthermore it is the most common form of dementia. And the dementia is a term used to describe memory loss and loss of other intellectual capabilities, like reasoning and other abilities based on thinking.
The one of the major risk factor of Alzheimer’s disease is aging. In people over the age of 65, the most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer's disease or its prevalence may be earlier at age of 40-50.
Moreover about 5 percent of people with this disease are in this age group i.e. 40-50.
At the last current FDA-approved Alzheimer's drugs are Donepezil, galantamine and rivastigmine.
In this chain the specific technologies of early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease are MRI scans, PET scans, and biomarker analysis.
As the future concern is the researchers are looking for new ways to treat Alzheimer's. Current drugs help to subside symptoms of Alzheimer's, but do not treat the basic disease or delay its succession.
