1. Multiple means of representation, to give learners various ways of acquiring information and knowledge. For example, it is likely that those with sensory or learning disabilities, language or cultural differences, and so forth may all require different ways of approaching content. Others may simply grasp information quicker or more efficiently through visual or auditory means rather than printed text.
2. Multiple means of expression, to provide learners alternatives for demonstrating what they know. For instance, may be able to express themselves well in written text but not speech, and vice versa. Others who maybe suffering from movement impairments or language difficulties may require varied methods by which they can express themselves.
3. Multiple means of engagement, to tap into learners' interests, offer appropriate challenges, and increase motivation. For instance, some learners are highly engaged by spontaneity and novelty while other are disengaged, even frightened, by those aspects, preferring strict routine.
