Discussion Question
1.) Interviewing unqualified applicants is frustrating and a tremendous waste of time for HR managers. Identify and describe several ways the HR department can minimize or even eliminate this problem.
Interviewing candidates is one of the most important steps in reviewing candidature and eventually selecting a candidate for a job. In the present scenario where one job can have hundreds and sometimes thousands of applications from candidates, Its very important for recruiters to come up with ways that unqualified candidates do not move ahead in the job hiring process and are removed in initial stages. Few basic steps that recruiter can take to achieve this goal are listed below:
- Have a clear and specified job description along with clear
requirements.
- Along with Job description, it is also important that recruiters
provide concise requirements in qualifications and skills that are
needed for the job.
- Use job-specific questions in the application process through
which candidates can be scored. This would give you a clear idea
who in the list has the skills and experience as per job
requirements.
- For a fresher job, conduct group discussions so that instead of
giving individual time you would be able to shortlist candidates
through GD points.
- In the current business scenario, historic data plays an
important role and can predict trends that can help you in
shortlisting candidate who is most likely to get the job. Through
this, you would have a group of candidates who can be interviewed
instead of you going through each resume.
- Social media has become an important part of everyone's life
today. The recruiter must keep a tab on the perception that is
being created for the respective organization so that the same can
be used to accelerate conversion rates.
