Discussion Question 2: This week we will be looking at leadership. Discuss at least two approaches to leadership and why they are important to the study of management. Give examples of each.
1. The difference between the Human Resource Management and Strategic Human Resource Management is about the conceptual understanding. The term HRM implies with the implementation of the management of the workforce and how effectively the management principles could be applied to make sure the organisation's workforce is working accordingly. On the other hand, strategic human resource management talks about the process where the business strategy of the company's human resource policies and practices are being applied and alligned for the organisational's strategic goals and objectives for the industrial purpose.
For example, making sure your organisation's workers are recieving fair and effective wages for the work they are performing would come under human resource management. On the other hand, making sure your organisation's workers are achieving the wages as strategic human resource upliftment policy of the company to make sure the ethical objective of the company is followed in this industrial market comes under strategic human resource management.
2. They are different approaches for the leadership. The two leadership approaches I would like to talk about are transactional approach of leadership ans transformational approach of leadership.
A transactional leader is the one who would treat the leadership as the method of exchange. It helps in giving the followers what they wish for if they do as what the leader wants. This type of leader is having a power and thus he is able to provide the exchange mechanism for the work they are doing and motivating them to perform better with the external factors and benefits provided. For example, giving the employees extra variable pay, bonuses and allowances for better performance and work is transactional leadership.
On the other hand transformational keader is leader of commitment, motivation and inspiration. The leader instead of providing benefits and external factors for the motivation would prefer to motivate and generate intrinsic factors to make sure a change could be seen and employees are committed towards their growth and inspiration for the growth. This type of leader uses his knowledge, leadership skills, charisma and motivational power to motivate the people for better performance. For example, leading, communicating and motivating an internal motive to achieve success and become better within the employees is transformational leadership.
