As the new cybersecurity employee at a Florida-based luxury hotel chain franchise, would you insource cybersecurity functions or outsource?
I will outsource cybersecurity function this decision is based on the following points of consideration.
Insourcing requires the in-house technical teams to be a part of the organisation which guarantees better locality of data and hence privacy, but insourcing can be a costlier choice as compared to its counterpart. Moreover, the variation in requirement of manpower and resources can cause serious delays in the project delivery or required modification. Another downside of insourcing is that, with the recent advancements in technology, it becomes important to keep up with the dynamic nature of the technology stack which again becomes tedious task for the company that specializes in an entirely different sector i.e, hospitality as compared to the tech sector.
Outsourcing the services will ensure that the latest updates are made to the technology stack/security stack which are required to be made as a part of the maintenance cycle. The specialization of the technology company to which outsourcing has been done would also advise the company on the precautionary measures and the infrastructure with an aim to ensure the security of the network systems and hence the data since technology company has access to large and hence better talent pool. Outsourcing will also be cost efficient as compared to insourcing. Also, the luxury hotel chain franchise can now focus on the core competency area (which is hospitality) rather than technology.
