Don't you agree that the lack of females in positions of authority provide girls with a message that girls are not capable of being in charge? Remember that in the 1700's in the United States when whaling was an industry, men were out to sea sometimes for years at a time, who ran the businesses back home? Women, there were many "cottage" industries in which women ran businesses out of their homes, but they made money, paid the bills, took care of the family, and were there when their men returned to land. The changes occurred during the Industrial Revolution in the United States when it was considered a sign of wealth when a "weak" woman was "allowed" to stay home and care for their children and their husbands worked in the factories of the time. So how do we reverse 100 years of societal influence?
Definitely, lack of females in dignified positions of the country provide a message that girls are not capable. Women are often percieved as weak, and incapable to handle high amount of responsibilty. Other gender stereotypes are that they are often emotional, and cannot work under pressure.
These are typical stereotypes. Although women cannot be seen at many authoritative places, an ordinary woman (each and every woman), is far more capable. Women are strong,independent,multi-tasking, and can eat pressure for breakfast :)
However, if we look at the big picture, all these qualities are hardly ever taken into consideration. She is looked to as a weak person, who is best suited in the kitchen, and the garden.
To revert this, is a slow and gradual process. We cannot achieve any big change, overnight. First thing to do is to make reservations for women, at all places of authority(For example, out of the 15 judges, 3 should be women). Not that women can't take these position themselves, just that this will remove scope of any unhealthy competition. Women should be encouraged to work outside, more than just sitting at home. Big Corporations can be of great help, as they can create a non-sexist environment for women to work. Also, the government must conduct free seminar and sessions for women for free, so that they can learn, and then step into the outside world.
