Describe the social exchange theory in regards to adaptability and authority in marriage.
Do you agree that marriages can thrive if rewards outweigh costs?
The social exchange theory or communication theory of social exchange is a psychological concept suggesting that humans make a social decision based on their own perceptions about the cost and benefits that could be gained by action or inaction.
If we talk about the marriage, we can say that marriage is kind of social exchange in which we exchange person with the help of social norms and condition to form a family and generations. The tradition of marriage come from the individual as well as the social concept of relationships, marriage enables adaptability and authority over a person who lives with us for long period of time.
I think marriage enables with social conditions so that rewards cannot outweigh cost until we take it as the socio-economic conditions. Marriage is an agreement between two people in which we compromise on some aspects and live together but it also belongs to socio-economic conditions so that we need to confine it with the rewards and authority.
