Answer the two positions below that you most agree with and defend it, giving specific evidence where possible to back up your answer.
POSITION A
The election of Donald Trump signifies an ever-deepening crisis in American democracy. He too often defies the institutional norms of the presidency and the rules of civility. The consequences of his disregard for these norms will ultimately weaken our democracy.
Position A:
Election of Trump to the position of president has posed threat to the survival of democracy. Dismantling of old norms has led to the likely instability of democracy.
There are many instances which corroborate facts that Trump is working against the democratic tenets. He has threatened actions against Hillary Clinton and Further, Trump is taking actions against media. President is threatening to stifle voice of media.
Trump is pushing up limitations on power of president. Increase in executive power of president is not good omen for long term survival of democracy.
Position B:
Some scholars say that maintaining status quo is not good for long run survival of democracy. Trump position on immigration and employment opportunities would help to restore the faith of people in democracy.
Further, scholars argue that American constitution is characterized by the checks and balances. Hence, president can not go against the norms of democracy and we should not be worried about the possible threat to democracy.
