Why is lack of support and authority a barrier within a profession?
Lack of support and authority can act as two significant barriers in any profession. Professionals need support in order to take risks, make decisions, think freely, do something innovative, execute difficult tasks. Without support, professionals would not be able to take enough risks or think out of the box or not ready to take difficult tasks. This will inhibit their learning and growth as a professional. Support is also required for proper nurturing of the professionals and to help them deal with problematic situations, stressful happenings, etc. In addition. professionals need authority in order to take risks, have discretion at work, and make independent decisions. Without the ability to make decisions or exercise discretion, a professional cannot freely contribute to his/her profession, which hinders learning and growth. For example, if a customer service professional does not have enough support or authority from seniors, he.she will neither be able to serve customers well, go out of the box to resolve customer issues or take any risks or new decisions. This will neither allow him/her to work independently not learn and grow as a professional.
