The arrangement in the drawing shows a block (mass = 15.2 kg) that is held in position on a frictionless incline by a cord (length = 0.580 m). The mass per unit length of the cord is 1.28 × 10-2 kg/m, so the mass of the cord is negligible compared to the mass of the block. The cord is being vibrated at a frequency of 150 Hz (vibration source not shown in the drawing). What is the smallest angle θ between 15.0 ° and 90.0 ° at which a standing wave exists on the cord?

Very large accelerations can injure the body, especially if they last for a considerable length of time. One model used to gauge the likelihood of injury is the severity index ( ?? ), defined as ??=?5/2? . In the expression, ? is the duration of the accleration, but ? is not equal to the acceleration. Rather, ? is a dimensionless constant that equals the number of multiples of ? that the acceleration is equal to. In one set of studies of rear-end collisions, a person's velocity increases by 12.5 km/h with an acceleration of 35.5 m/s2 . Let the +? direction point in the direction the car is traveling. What is the severity index for the collision? ??= How far ? does the person travel during the collision if the car was initially moving forward at 5.70 km/h ? ?= m

On January 2, 2018, Athol Company bought a machine for use in operations. The machine has an estimated useful life of eight years and an estimated residual value of $1,500. The company provided the following information:
January 2:
January 15: Paid the balance of the invoice price in cash.
April 16: Paid the note payable and interest in cash.
1. Compute the acquisition cost of the machine.
2. Prepare the journal entries to record the purchase of the machine and subsequent cash payments on January 15 and April 16, 2018. (Do not round intermediate calculations and round your final answers to the nearest dollar amount. If no entry is required for a transaction/event, select "No journal entry required" in the first account field.)
January 2, 2018: Record purchase of machine by issuing shares, signing a note and the balance on account.
January 2, 2018: Record payment of machine installation costs.
January 15, 2018: Record payment made after discount period.
April 16, 2018: Record payment of note and interest
3. Compute the depreciation expense for each of the years 2018, 2019, and 2020, assuming the company’s fiscal year ends on December 31. Use the straight-line depreciation method. (Do not round intermediate calculations and round your final answers to the nearest dollar amount.)
4. Prepare the journal entry to record the sale of the machine on October 1, 2025. (Hint: First determine the balance of the accumulated depreciation account on that date.) (Do not round intermediate calculations and round your final answers to the nearest dollar amount. If no entry is required for a transaction/event, select "No journal entry required" in the first account field.)

Read Case Activity: A Social Media Campaign for Yogurt Program on page 244.
Answer the questions in the Writing Prompt section and provide your opinion on the use of social media (based on the chapter) for the public relations activities part of their marketing plan. Participate in the discussion on Social Media with someone else in the course. This is page 244: The discussion on the previous pages examined ways in which an individual can formulate persuasive messages. The ability to use these techniques often leads to charges that public relations practitioners have great power to influence and manipulate people. In reality, the effectiveness of persuasive techniques is greatly exaggerated. Persuasion is not an exact science, and no surefire way exists to predict that people will be persuaded to believe a message or act on it. If persuasive techniques were as refined as the critics say, all people might be driving the same make of car, using the same soap, and voting for the same political candidate. This doesn’t happen because several variables intervene in the flow of persuasive messages. Elihu Katz says the two major intervening variables are selectivity and interpersonal relations; these are consistent with the limited-effects model of mass communication.
For purposes of discussion, the limitations on effective persuasive messages can be listed as:
(1) lack of message penetration,
(2) competing messages,
(3) self-selection, and
(4) self-perception.
This is a Public Relation Subject.
