How might an individual’s dilemma about teamwork be intensified or reduced in a virtual team? As a virtual team leader, what would you do to manage these dilemmas?
Earlier, it was necessary that the team member should be physically available. But with the evolution of the technology it has been changed. The Virtual Global Management team members are engaged in a project without any physical interaction with other members and deliver the project on time and they are connected to each other with technologies. There is no doubt that virtual teams are gaining very importance in modern time because it saves time and money and bring people who are geographically dispersed together for discussion. But it is also true that without face to face discussion, there is a chance of misunderstanding and it impacts negatively. Secondly, employees feel isolated and ignorant from the main office of the company. Sometimes, the employees lose their interest in work when they did not receive proper appreciation and recognition for their work.
The other dilemmas are handling the various cultural differences because the team members are at different places, barriers of the distance, shortage of time etc
I remembered one experience when I was associated with a firm on part time basis as a part of virtual team. It was not very experience for me because most of the time, I do not have much information for performing my task and they did not take my request seriously because of other work which may have more priority in their situation. so I feel very isolated and ignorant by the senior of my company and this was the reason to quit the job for me because it was not creating any interest for me to show my capability and skills.
