Ethical dilemma in nursing related to same sex parenting; adoption , surrogates:
Dilemma is a circumstance in which a choice must be made between 2 or more alternatives that seem equally undesirable . Ethical dilemma refers to a decision making problem between two moral options / ethical options that seem equally undesirable. Same sex parenting is the process of parenting by two homosexual men or women. Surrogacy is the state or condition being a surrogate or surrogate mother ( A woman who gave birth to a child not her own with the intent to give that child up to atleast one of the biological parents once it is born. Adoption is the acceptance of a child of other parents as if she or she were once own child.
Many ethical dilemmas may occur in the world of nursing related to Same sex parenting (, surrogate or adopts a child ). Nurses have to take a stand for same sex parents or for the child they are going to adopt. Many questions are there related to the children's condition raised by same sex parents, (either lesbi*n or g*y). Concern regarding the child's growth and development, sexual orientation of child, self esteem and personality, teasing and bullying from schools or Peers, safety of the child etc. Nurses might be in dilemma, whether to encourage the same sex parents who are willing to adopts or surrogates one child. Another conflict in nursing is the behaviour of nurses to the LGBTQ couples. Nurses may become tensed on the fact that the incoming couples are same sex couples/ parents; what questions to be asked, the behaviour may be indifferent, the child they adopt may be under danger of torture or abuse..etc. These concerns may put nurses under stress and in ethical dilemma , whether to support the same sex couples for a surrogacy or for an adoption .
Same sex couples also may be in dilemma, while coming to the point of adopt or surrogate . They may be in want of a child, but may have serious concern over child's rearing up and his mental condition once he grown-up.
