Atorvastatin traded as lipoprotein which belongs to the member of medication class known as stations, which are a lipid lowering agent and prevents cardiovascular disease.
Primary use of Atorvastatin is for dyslipidemia and prevention of cardiovascular disease. Other uses are:
Hypercholestrolemia ,heterozygos familial Hypercholestrolemia in pediatric patient, homozygos familial Hypercholestrolemia ,hypertriglyceridemia, primary dysbetalipoproteinemia, combined hyperlipidemia, heart attack, stroke, unstable angina, acute coronary syndrome and thrombotic stroke.
Side effects: diabetes Mallory's, myopathy, persistent liver enzyme abnormality, arthralgia,diarrhea,dyspepsia,myalgia and nausea.
Nursing intervention:
* administer the drug at bedtime
* intiate the patient for a 3-6months of diet and exercise program
* emphasize the importance of lifestyle chnages
* provide comfort and safety measures
* educate patient on drug therapy.
