(1) DRUG NAME :- Amlodipine
CLASS:- Calcium channels blocker
USES :- It is used to treat high blood pressure, coronary artery
disease, and angina.
SIDE EFFECTS:-
- may cause extreme sleepiness
- swelling of legs or ankles
- stomach pain
- dizziness and nausea
- warm feeling in face (flushing)
- irregular heart rate (arrhythmia)
- very fast heart rate (palpitations)
- tremors
NURSING INTERVENTIONS:-
-Monitor patient carefully (BP, cardiac rhythm, and output) .
-Adjusting drug to therapeutic dose; use special caution if patient
has CHF.
-Monitor BP very carefully if patient is also on nitrates.
-Monitor cardiac rhythm regularly during stabilization of dosage
and periodically during long-term therapy.
(2) DRUG NAME:- Prazosin
CLASS:- Alpha-blockers
USES:- It works by relaxing blood vessels
-high blood
pressure.
-it helps
prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
SIDE EFFECTS:-
-Headache
-drowsiness
-tiredness and weakness
- blurred vision
-nausea
-vomiting and diarrhea
NURSING INTERVENTIONS:-
-
Monitor patient's blood pressure and pulse rate.
-
Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the drug's hypotensive
effects.
-
Monitor patient compliance.
- Full
therapeutic effect of drug is reached within 4-6 weeks.
-
Educate the patient about weight loss, exercise programs as
needed.
-
Educate the patient about additional methods to lower blood
pressure (low-sodium diet, decrease tobacco use, decrease alcohol
consumption).
(3) DRUG NAME :- Lisinopril
CLASS :- ACE (Angiotensin convertin
enzyme)
Inhibitor
USES:- Lisinopril is used to treat high blood
pressure(hypertension), congestive heart failure, and to improve
survival after a heart attack.
SIDE EFFECTS:-
- Blurred vision
- cloudy urine
- confusion
- decrease in urine output
- dizziness, faintness
- sweating
- unusual tiredness or weakness
NURSING INTERVENTIONS:-
-Begin drug within 24 hr
of acute MI,ensure that patient is also receiving standard
treatment.
- Keep epinephrine
readily available in case of angioedema of the face or neck
region.
- Monitor patients on
diuretic therapy for excessive hypotension following the first few
doses of lisinopril.
(4) DRUG NAME:- NITROGLYCERIN
CLASS:- Nitrates
USES:- it is used to treat angina
(chest pain)
-myocardial infarction (heart attack)
-Congestive heart failure (CHF),
-hypertension (high blood pressure).
SIDE EFFECTS:-
-Headache
-dizziness
-Lightedness
-nausea,
-flushing
NURSING INTERVENTIONS:-
-Enquire the complete health history of the patient including
allergy, drug interactions, and family background of
hypertension.
-Monitor blood pressure and pulse before and during
treatment.
-Check
lab test for CBC, blood glucose, BUN, creatinine, platelets,
electrolytes, LFT.
-Arterial pressure should be monitored during treatment via
intra-arterial recording.
-Observe patients for possible s/s of edema or congestive heart
failure.
(5) DRUG NAME:- Atorvastatin
CLASS:- statins
USES:- it is useful in lower "bad"
cholesterol and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the blood.
-decreases the risk of heart disease and helps prevent strokes and
heart attacks.
SIDE EFFECTS:-
: -hemorrhagic
stroke
-arthralgia
-diarrhea,
-nasopharyngitis
-urinary
tract infection,
-
insomnia,
- limb
pain
- myalgia
and nausea
NURSING INTERVENTIONS:-
- monitor cholesterol levels and
liver function.
- monitor blood pressure and pulse
rate.
(6) DRUG NAME:- Metoprolol
CLASS:- Beta blockers
USES :- it is used in-
- Hypertension
- helps prevent strokes, heart attack and kidney problems.
- chest pain (angina).
SIDE EFFECTS:-
-Drowsiness
-dizziness
-tiredness
-diarrhea
-slow heartbeat
may occur
-Decreased sexual
ability.
NURSING INTERVENTIONS:-
- Inquire patient’s complete health
history including allergies, diabetes or any respiratory
diseases.
- Monitor blood pressure and pulse
prior administration of medicine.
- Observe daily intake an output of
fluid. Check body weight.
- Patient with respiratory disease
specially with asthma or COPD should be closely monitored for sign
and symptoms.
