Expert Solution
When someone re-enters back to their home culture, they
experience reverse culture shock sometimes.Such people are called
expats, who do face challenges when they return back to their own
home.
Upon return, the person and his/her family have to work to
re-establish relationships with their friends and family in their
own home country since they return after some time and have kind of
lost touch. They also have to adjust to the fact that no longer will
they be having the benefits they became used to during their
assignment such as housing and schooling.
Often repatriates expect their home to be just the same as it
was when they left. While they were outside the country, events and
new developments would have happened in their old community. These
natural changes can be shocking and disorienting upon return.
Relationships with people changes as well, the person's old
friends lives may have evolved. Friends may have changed their
social group. Relationships that were once strong may no longer be
the same. This is also a challenge one faces when returning back
home.
In terms of work also they have to face problems, since when
they return back to their home organization their position could be
filled up by someone else, and they may have look for other jobs and
sometimes end up doing less challenging jobs than the job they had
before returning.
And because one has lived in another culture for so long, one
brings those routines and customs with them in their home
culture, causing them to unlearn everything from their old culture
and relearn everything about their home culture, making the re-entry
and transition difficult.
One can alleviate reverse culture shock is by keeping in touch
witht everyone from their home country, maintain one's lifestyle
which one has become used to and have an open mindset while working
in a new position.
Learn from this transition and rebuild one's relationships and
interests rather than becoming disoriented.Even in jobs, one can
join training programs to learn new skills and also relearn skills
to make necessary adjustments. The transition requires patience and
even more of an open mind than before.
