I was born and raised in the United States and my culture is
what is described as individualistic. In fact, most Western
countries are characterized an individualistic culture, which means
the we oriented around the self, and value being independent
instead of identifying with a group mentality. In stressful
situations, therefore, we tend to tackle the problem by ourselves
and may feel ashamed to admit that we need help from others. In
fact, stress maybe regarded as something shameful in the first
place, indicating that we are unable to effectively cope with a
situation. In other cultures, however, reaching out to others is
not a sign of weakness but a natural response to stress. In
collectivistic cultures, dependence and
co-operation are considered more important. It has been established
that seeking social support is an effective coping mechanism, and
it is something I would personally like to do as well.

answer just one question or four sub parts of the same
