Write down the DNA base sequence that is the complementary strand to the DNA sequence shown below?

(5') C G A C T T C G A G C T (3')

Solutions

Expert Solution

ANS:: 3' G C T G A A G C T C G A 5'

Explanation: DNA is double stranded structure ,which contain purine and pyrimidine base pairs . Purine have adenine , guanine and pyrimidines have cytosine and thymine.

According to CHARGAFF'S rule each purine bases pair with pyrimidine means Adenine is always paired with Thymine and Guanine is paired with Cytosine.Adenine makes two hydrogen bonds with thymine and Guanine makes three hydrogen bond with Cytosine.

Complementary means to complement each other , Adenine complement with Thymine and Cytosine complement with Guanine.The main purpose of making complementary bond is to preserve the DNA sequence code because DNA undergoes semiconservative replication which results into one old strand and one new stand and after replication identical copy is made which is complemtary to template strand but identical for other strand.
