What does muda mean and how could it be used with a cellular company (Sprint, Verizon, etc.)?
Muda means waste, inefficiency, and futility that is
contradicting value-addition. Value-added work is an added value
process to the product or service that customers are prepared to
pay for. Two Muda, Type 1, and Type 2 are available. , Muda Type1
includes non-value - added activities but they are required for the
end-customers. The inspections and safety tests, does not add value
to the product or services but are very important for the customers
or final products; it does, however, require activities to ensure
customers a safe product. Muda Type 2 includes non-value-added
processing activities, but the customers do not need these
activities. Muda Type 2 should, therefore, be removed.
In the event of messaging services and wireless voice services
offered by Sprint, for example, inspections and tests are sometimes
carried out in order to ensure the privacy of customers. As much as
the inspection is needed, it does little to add value to customers'
services.
