What is the purpose of the ISO14001 and how is it used? What problems could arise when using it? Does it apply to all businesses? What non-sustainable business products or practices does it fail to address? Explain your answers.
The Purpose of ISO14001 is to help organization to improve their environmental performance through efficient use of resources & reduction of waste. ISO 14001 is an international standard that specifies requirements for effective environmental system(EMS).
Its a systematic framework to designed that a organization can follow to for EMS.
Problems that could arise when using ISO 14001 are as follows:
Many of the organization set there own targets to achieve IS0 14001 certification. They may set easy or non achievable goals.
Organization put there best efforts but still doesn't get the desired results as no appropriate management solutions or adequate resources are available with them.
Does it apply to all businesses - Yes it can apply to all organizations who are keen to reduce cost, reduce waste & increase efficiency.
The Non sustainable business practices that ISO 14001 failed to address is environmental regulatory compliance status. There seems to be compliance Gap as ISO 14001 emphasis much on EMS process while avoiding operational results & employee actions.
