The Models of Abnormal Behavior in textbook discussed are the following from what I can tell: 1. Medical Model, 2. Psychodynamic Model, 3. Behavioral Model, 4. Humanistic Model, 5. MODELS OF ABNORMALITY
The medical/biological model - This mode discusses abnormality from a medical and biological point of view. This model says that the chemicals of the btain controls many behaviours and our attitudes. The main stress is on bodily process which is related to biological factors. For example, genetic inheritance.
The behavioural model - This model describes abnormality through conduct that we acquire. Behaviours are learnt in a progression which is called conditioning, where a person links one thing with another.
The psychodynamic model - Sigmund Freud presented psychodynamic model. The central concept was that the origins of psychological ailment are psychosomatic and are connected to the unconscious mind, and due to the failure of defence mechanisms.
The cognitive model - Any process related to brain is called Cognition According to the the cognitive model of abnormality, abnormalities come from anomalous intellectual progressions. the cognitive model says that there are two things that causes cause abnormality: -
Humanistic model – In this model behaviour is controlled by the decisions that public makes about their lives constructed on their insights of the world is the main idea of this model
Sociocultural model of abnormality - This model stresses on the societal and traditional setting. It suggests that abnormality is a direct function of criteria of society and characterizations for suitable behaviour. This abnormality model is social and not medical or psychological
The Biopsychosocial model has a view that the abnormalities occurs due to three major factors
Among all the models of abnormalities the Biopsychosocial model best explains abnormal behaviour as it is caused due to three factors. These three factors contribute to their experience of health or illness
