Research indicates that, unlike many other disorders (e.g., panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder), GAD has a gradual onset that frequently dates back to childhood; many adults with GAD recall being tense, anxious, and worried all of their lives. GAD is characterisized by excessive worry about almost everything in life.A person suffering from GAD worries about their own health to the health of their loved ones,vecause of which they hhave sleepless nights,muscle pains,difficulty in concentrating in work etc.
Anxiety is something which is a normal part of our lives.We all experience it some time or the other.Normal anxiety is helpful and is like an alarm to our system when we are facing a threatening situation.It movtivates us to face the problem and figure out solutions.
But sometimes this normal anxiety goes above the tipping point and becomes excessive which is problematic and thats when it can result in a full blown anxiety disorder.Not everyone will experience a full blown excessive anxiety disorder,since each individual is different in controling their anxiety,some wouldnt be able to and some would do it easily.
When one cannot control their anxiety,it becomes excessive and that becomes pathological in nature.I feel the tendency to excessively worry is probably more of an eduring personality characteristic than something which happens occasionally in a person.
If an individual suffering from some kind of stress has no way of overcoming it,then excessive worry can easily take place and take over the person making it uncontrollable.
People with GAD have an enduring personality characteristic that causes them to be more anxious more frequently than a person who experiences normal anxiety.To worry about your exam is different from having uncontrollable and excessive worry about almost every small thing in your life.
