  • I have had a personal experience dealing with OCD with one of my family members. He was having OCD of washing his hands which really hampered his life and his family as well. Intially, nobody paid attention but as his behaviour became more profound and he started spending hours washing his hands it became evident to us that he was suffering from OCD. His hands used to red and went to the extent of bleeding. This really hampered his professional life as well as he stopped working for almost 3 years. It also hampered his personal life as well as on the day he was getting married,he went to the bathroom and did not come out for almost two hours since he was complusively washing his hands and having anxiety attacks. This made all of us panic and didnt know how to handle the situation but eventually he did came out and we calmed him down. It is extremely difficult to live with OCD as thr preoccupied thoughts of washing one's hands all the time overpowers the person and makes it difficult for them as well as people around them to deal with it.
  • Though he got treated and no relapse happend after that so did not majorly affect his married life but for a few months initially it was difficult for his wife also to deal with it. But the struggle is real,

Research indicates that, unlike many other disorders (e.g., panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder), GAD has a gradual onset that frequently dates back to childhood; many adults with GAD recall being tense, anxious, and worried all of their lives. Why do you think this is the case? Do you believe that the tendency to worry excessively is more like an enduring personality characteristic than a symptom that occurs acutely from time to time?
