  • Make a list of characteristics that describe who you are (your self-concept). After looking at the list, see if you can come up with a few words that summarize the list to narrow in on the key features of your self-concept. Go back over the first list and evaluate each characteristic, for example noting whether it is something you do well/poorly, something that is good/bad, positive/negative, desirable/undesirable. Is the overall list more positive or more negative? After doing these exercises, what have you learned about your self-concept and self-esteem?
  • Discuss at least one time in which you had a discrepancy or tension between two of the three selves described by self-discrepancy theory (the actual, ideal, and ought selves). What effect did this discrepancy have on your self-concept and/or self-esteem?
  • Take one of the socializing forces discussed (family, culture, or media) and identify at least one positive and one negative influence that it/they have had on your self-concept and/or self-esteem.
  • Getting integrated: Discuss some ways that you might strategically engage in self-presentation to influence the impressions of others in an academic, a professional, a personal, and a civic context.

2] Johari Window is nothing but a method for an individual to understand their alliance with others and themselves. Johari window have four division- Open intervals i.e.. behaviors about yourself which you know it and also people whom you know also knows it and understands you completely. Blind fleck i.e.. a behavior or habit which you don't know about yourself but people know about it and gives them the topic to gossip about it. Hidden realm is something which is close to your heart that only you know about yourself and no one knows it. Unknown realm which neither you know about yourself nor others.

3] The factors that influence self - disclosure are as follows- i) One's identity- How are you in real life i.e. extrovert (more socialite) or introvert (shy or reserved kind of person), ii) One's Culture- persons lifestyle, way of life, customs followed by family etc. iii) One's Gender- How much freedom of choice is given on basis of gender differences. iv) One's percipient- how your percipient understand your problem/issue/good news about you but again it varies on person to person to whom you trust. v) Concept and Mode- what you are comfortable to disclose/discuss about i.e.. shopping stuffs, job etc and topics which makes you uncomfortable to talk about i.e.. sex life or monetary affairs.

4] Perception is a process which the individual is already aware about i.e.. things, affairs in the eternal. Perception occurs in five stages- i) provocation which means selection of one's particular attention and selective subject; for example chatting with friends but not paying attention to that person since he is not your best friend or you are not comfortable or not interesting but if that person talks about one of your favorite topic that catches your attention suddenly, ii) consortium which means the capacity to identify and recognize objects and events is crucial for normal people, iii) elucidation which totally depends on persons experiences, needs, wants, values; for example if a person meets a doctor we creates a doctors image and persona in our mind of some serious, successful in everything etc, iv) remembrance is the storage of both consortium and elucidation that is kept according to one's computing and v) retraction is nothing but reiterating of information that unceasing with system.
