Name 3 main steps of cellular eespiration and 2 main of photosynthesis. where in the eukaryotic cell they occur? how about the prokaryotic cell?

pleasw make table if needed.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Three main stages of cellular respiration:

I. Glycolysis - Glucose breaks down into 2 pyretic acid molecules, releasing 2 ATP and hydrogen. It takes place in cytoplasm.

II. Karen's cycle - convert derivative of pyruvic acid into hydrogen, H2O and CO2. It takes place in mitochondrial matrix.

III. Electron transport chain - It takes place in mitochondrial membrane.

* Two main stages of photosynthesis:

I. Light dependent reactions - this stage uses the light energy to make ATP and NADPH and it takes place in thylakoid membrane.

II. Light independent reactions - this stage can occur without light and it takes place in stroma surrounding the thylakoid membrane of chloroplast.

In eukaryotes, most of the reactions of cellular respiration takes place in the mitochondria. While in prokaryotes, cellular respiration takes place within the cytoplasm or on the inner surfaces of the cells.

In eukaryotes, photosynthesis takes place in chloroplast. While in prokaryote, photosynthesis takes place within the folded membranes near the cell membrane.
