There are five conflict management styles
1.Avoiders: Avoider steers clear of conflicts. When you are an avoider of conflict often you do not have the time, the energy, or the skills to engage in the type of conflict that is happening. Avoiders often worry that the conflict will escalate if they get involved
2.Accommodators: Accommodators allow others to determine what the outcome of the conflict will be. Accommodators often prefer to maintain a relationship with the people causing the conflict. Accommodators value their relationship and do not cause trouble for anyone.
3.Forcers: Forcers are different; they want their needs to be met regardless of costs. Winning provides a sense of accomplishments. Forcers employ persuasion with emotional appeals, strong deliveries, and persistence to get their needs met.
4.Compromisers: Compromisers think that individuals involved in a conflict must give up something in order to reach the solution. When you are a compromise you need to expect to settle for less, then what would be considered to meet your own needs
5. Collaboration (win-win approach): involves showing high concern both for yourself and for others. Conflicts are seen as problems to be solved rather than games to be won.
In this conflict management style:
-Fresh and new ideas are sought.
-Enhanced commitment to a solution is sought.
-Establishing rapport and positive climate is important.
-Emotional feelings are intense so all involved need to be listened to.
-Important to affirm the value of the interpersonal relationship.
