Explain the three conflict negotiation models and situations in which each would be appropriate
Negotiation can be defined as a discussion between the individuals who is involved in conflict in order to draw a conclusions that will be equally acceptable to both the all the partcipants. In this process people sit together, discuss and analyze the pros and cons of the situation and generate an alterative which if implemented will solve the conflict. Negotiation is an important aspect in every one's lifes to lead a peaceful and stressless life. The various models of negotiatation are:
The win an win model of negotiation is used in all scenario where we have to remain in contact with the concern person again and again and their goodwill is is important for us. Its basically used in situations where you need to foster a healthy relationship with the opposite party.
2. Win lose model: In thus type of negotiation one party wins whereas the other looses. Here after many discussions and negotiations one party is benefited while the other will remain dissatisfied. This type of negotiation is seen in legal cases where one party wins the case while other loses the case. Lets take the example of John again. John negotiates with the shopkeeper to lower the price further, if the shopkeeper does so, then he will sell the item at a price which will be less than what he had bought for. In such situation, the shopkeeper will be in a loss but John will be benefited and satisfied.
The win lose model of negotiation is mainly used in situations where we have to negotiate the price of goods or services (like buying house or car).Mainly it is used in places where one is not planning to have any further relationship or goodwill of the concern persons.
3. Lose lose model: In this as the word suggest, te outcome of the negotiation is zero. None of the party gets benefited nor is satisfied. Both the parties are not ready to accept the views of the other and are reluctance to compromise. In the above example: If the shopkeeper didnot lower the price and John decides not to purchase the item, then both of them is not benefited and remain unsatisfied. Neither John could purchase the item nor the shopkeeper could make an earning.
Lose lose model of negotiation is used in situation which seems to be very tough to negotiate and making efforts to do so is just wastage of time and effort.
