Does American society operate under a consensus or a conflict model?
American Society definitely operates under a conflict model. There is lot of discriminations such as class, race, gender etc. When the war of independence was announced the 13 colonies participated on a minimum common agenda. There were differences between North and South. The individualistic and materialistic ideologies furthered the conflict by making the rich richer and the poor poorer. The superpower image and the economical problems have divided people to a great extent. The recent wars that America had waged against different countries were not under consensus but in the midst of conflicting opinions. People who are disadvantaged in the society are fighting hard for their survival while a minority group holds more wealth and prosper steadily. Women are still fighting against their right to equal wage, sexual harassment, domestic violence etc. The education system supports people with more money thus limiting the disadvantaged from entering into colleges. There is no proper family system present in America and this affects the children to a great extent as they grow.
