Two broad perspectives have been outlined; the consensus perspective and the conflict perspective. The contemporary The feminist theory, the exchange theory, the symbolic interactionism theory, and modernity theory are the contemporary theories covered. Which one of the broad perspectives or contemporary theories are most closely aligned with family and societal dynamics?
Conflict perspective suggests that the society is in a perpetual conflict for the limited resources available where social order is maintained not through consensus but through domination. This would, mean both the family and societal settings is the result of the majority and the powerful who defined the role of people. Thus, men in the family, society and workplace gained upper hand because they owned the resources and limited women from education, employment, property, healthcare, political participation etc. which led them to depend on men. Secondly, the society is controlled by the majority, especially the wealthy power elites who control every aspect of the society thus, neglecting and discriminating the minority people from all walks of life. Minority people who own less resources fight for equal opportunities and equal treatment in a society that’s dominated by the power elites.
