Streptococcus pyogenes cause pyogenic infections with a characteristic tendency to spread .
It causes multiple diseases like-
1. Respiratory infections- tonsillitis, pharyngitis etc. From throat , the bacteria can spread to other parts and cause otitis media, mastoiditis,quinsy, meningitis etc.
2. Skin and soft tissue infections- infections of wounds and burns, lymphangitis, cellulitis, erysiply,impetigo, necrotising fascitis, toxic shock syndrome, genital infections etc.
3. It also cause rheumatic fever, glomerulonephritis.
With such a wide varities of diseases, streptococci is very dangerous.
prevention-
streptococcus spreads through air , direct contact, contaminated finger,dust and fomites.
So precautions should be taken against them. Distancing should be made from infected person. Mouth and nose should be closed while sneezing.
Appropriate antibiotics should be given for treatment.
