1. One of the emerging diseases that needs utmost concern and immediate attention is multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Tuberculosis is curable with synthetically manufactured antibiotics such as rifampicin, isoniazid etc. But in recent years Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of TB has been seen to acquire resistance to multiple drugs at the same time rendering all common antibiotics to treat TB ineffective.

2. The possible factors leading to the occurrence of MDR-TB are as follows:

  • irregularity in taking medications in ignorant TB patients
  • discontinuation of TB treatment without complete recovery
  • wrong duration or dose of TB treatment prescribed by doctors
  • secondary onset of TB in immune-suppressed patient after being cured from the primary infection
  • poor quality of the drugs to be administered

3. I am prone to avoiding exercise for long stretches of time, frequently eating high calorie containing foods especially junk foods such as pizza, burger, noodles, pasta etc. These things might have predisposed me to future onset of cardiovascular disease. I might die of a cardiac arrest.

4. The risk factors that one often chooses to ignore:

  • not doing proper exercise or physical activity
  • avoiding consumption of healthy homemade foods
  • intake of junk foods quite often or regularly
  • not maintain a healthy BMI (body-mass index)  
  • consumption of alcohol
  • regular smoking
  • mismanagement of stress
  • sleep deprivation

5. The changes one can integrate into life to reduce the chances of cardiovascular diseases are:

  • adopt healthy eating habits by regulating calorie intake
  • avoiding fast foods, soft drinks etc
  • doing regular exercise or physical activities like running, walking, swimming, cycling etc. to burn extra calories
  • checking blood pressure at least once a year
  • keep tabs on cholesterol and triglyceride levels in blood
  • avoid obesity by maintaining healthy weight
  • limit alcohol and smoking
  • manage stress by regular meditation, listening to music etc
  • making a habit of having at least 8 hours of sleep
